Question:
I am sort of a new comer to diet.
although I am not a newcomer to
sports. I play icehockey, run, swim,
bike and anything else. The problem
is this: I am just shy of forty
years old and it seems my usual
diet of random pasta, hamburgs,
fries, and eggs over easy with sausage
every morning is not cutting it
.or rather, the activity is not
keeping it all off as it used to
ten to twenty years ago.
The qusetion
is that i've searched the web for
a decent site or a book on basic
nutrition informatin (I don't really
know the difference between proteins
carbs etc )- I know that proteins
are from meat, and carbs from pasta,
but I would like to learn 1) basic
body chemistry and WHY these things
are important and 2) what is the
balance that they are important.
Can anyone ercommend a book, magazine,
web site that is worthwhile - a
nutrition for atletics for Dummies,
if you will.
Answer:
I think the following is a sufficient
summary;
Lots of fruit and veges, plenty
of lean meat and fish, not too much
cereals or dairy food, no fried
food.
If you are
serious about getting really fit
read the Paleo Diet by Loren Cordain.
It is a very tough and different
diet but very good. I'm 39 and have
transformed myself totally in about
9 months - I have the physique of
a toned 18 yo now. I also exercise
at least 1 hr a day too. 14 kg (31lbs)
weight loss and about 8% body fat
now.
