Anyone Run the Grandma's Marathon? |
Question:
Just wondering if anyone here has
ever registered for Grandma's Marathon
in Duluth Minnesota? This will be
my third Grandma's. I'd really like
to hear from some other runners who
will be there.
Answer:
It's a beautiful course. I haven't
run it in ten years but if you've
got the chance to run it do. I don't
recall it being particularly hilly
although there is Lemmon drop hill
which appears around mile 22.
If I'm not mistaken it's raced in
early June and on occasion the temp
can be a bit warmer than would be
ideal. As far as hills go, the course
is more level than any other I have
run (eg., Twin Cities, Madison). Lemon
Drop Hill is at a rather inconvenient
point -- 22 miles -- but I didn't
think it was as bad as all that. The
little
dipsea doodle at the end, where you
turn left off Superior, down to the
frontage, then up and over the freeway
-- that was an unwelcome little surprise
for me!
